East

Hail, guardians of the watchtowers of the East, powers of Air, we invoke you and call you! By the power of the morning dawn, we call forth the spirit of the eagle, crow, hawk and butterfly. Bring us intelligence and communication so that we may think clearly and communicate with each other. Hail and welcomne, East and Air!

 

South

Hail, guardians of the watchtowers of the South, powers of Fire, we invoke you and call you. By the light of the noonday sun, we call forth the spirit of the lion, salamander and dragon. Give us power and passion so that we may find our true identities and live in authentic expression of our selves. Hail and welcome, South and Fire!

 

west

Hail, guardians of the watchtowers of the West, powers of Water, we invoke you and call you! By the twilight of the setting sun, we call forth the spirit of the fish, dolphin, urchin and mermaid. Bring us emotion and community so that we may love one another and feel our sorrow and our joy. Hail and welcome, West and Water!

 

North

Hail, guardians of the watchtowers of the North, powers of Earth, cornerstone of all power, we invoke you and call you! By the light of the north star, we call forth the spirit of the buffalo, horse, dog and bull, and all that is green and grows from Mother Earth. Give us abundance and security so that we may be nourished and sheltered. Hail and welcome, North and Earth!

 

Center

Hail, guardians of the watchtowers of the Center, powers of Ether, we invoke you and call you! We call forth the spirit of the spider and scarab, the god and goddess, and she whose name cannot be spoken. By the powers of the fairy folk, gnomes and ancient ones, lift the veil and reveal the mystery to us. Hail and welcome, Center and Spirit!

 

These are sample invocations. There is no one right way to call the directions; you may use these or use one that has meaning for you. You do not have to memorize them and they do not have to be the same each time. It's fine to just say whatever comes to you. Some of us like having the first and last sentence go by the formula, and the middle section spontaneous.
